What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic?

Porcelain is a much denser bisque and is also less porous than ceramic. Porcelain can be used  outside where ceramic cannot. Porous ceramic can hold water which can turn into ice and crack in freezing temperatures. Porcelain is durable- it wears slower in a high traffic environment.
